Hardware wallet access
Broken Ledger or Trezor? The recovery path depends on what was actually lost
A damaged device, forgotten PIN, missing seed, forgotten BIP39 passphrase, and empty restored wallet are different problems. Hardware security should not be described as something that can simply be bypassed.
Separate the device from the wallet
The hardware device protects signing keys. A correct recovery phrase can usually restore compatible accounts on a replacement device, but an optional passphrase and derivation settings may also be required.
Do not reset the only device too early
Before firmware updates, PIN retries, factory reset, repair, or disposal, document the model, screen condition, error, setup date, known public addresses, and what backups exist. Some devices erase after repeated failed PIN attempts.
Broken device with a complete backup
If the correct seed and any required passphrase survive, the problem may be ordinary restoration rather than device extraction. Use verified vendor guidance and test cautiously.
Missing backup or forgotten passphrase
When the seed is incomplete, absent, or combined with an unknown passphrase, feasibility changes significantly. Physical device attacks are model- and condition-specific and may be impossible, unsafe, or require a specialist hardware laboratory.
Owner authorization and limits
KeyBack assesses only owner-authorized cases and does not promise to defeat a secure element or bypass protections. A public balance does not create a technical recovery path.
Frequently asked questions
Can a forgotten hardware-wallet PIN be reset?
Often the device must be reset and restored from the recovery phrase. Without that phrase or another valid backup, the situation is materially different.
What if the device will not power on?
Preserve it and its accessories without destructive repair. Determine whether the seed and passphrase exist before considering hardware work.
Why does a restored hardware wallet show different addresses?
An optional passphrase, account, derivation path, network, or script type may differ from the original setup.
