Owner-authorized recovery assessment
Wallets and access problems KeyBack can assess
The wallet name is only the starting point. A useful assessment depends on what still exists: an encrypted file, an original device, a backup, known public addresses, or non-sensitive password clues. KeyBack evaluates legitimate owner-authorized cases and does not guarantee recovery.
Bitcoin Core / Bitcoin-Qt
Encrypted wallet.dat, forgotten passphrase, readable backups, corruption questions and old Core installations.
Blockchain.info / Blockchain.com
Legacy wallet.aes.json backups where the encrypted file survives but its password is forgotten.
Electrum
Encrypted Electrum wallet files, forgotten file passwords and cases where wallet type and seed availability must be separated.
Electrum guide →MultiBit Classic and MultiBit HD
Discontinued wallet formats with surviving application folders, wallet files, key exports or automatic backups.
MultiBit guide →MetaMask
Forgotten password cases where the original browser profile or encrypted vault data may still survive.
MetaMask vault guide →Ethereum keystore / Geth / Mist
Encrypted UTC-- or V3 JSON keystore files with a forgotten password and identifiable ownership history.
Ethereum keystore guide →Ledger, Trezor and hardware wallets
Device, PIN, seed, optional passphrase and empty-wallet problems require different recovery paths.
Hardware-wallet guide →BIP39 passphrase / “25th word”
A correct seed with a forgotten optional passphrase can open valid but different wallets; feasibility depends on bounded clues.
BIP39 passphrase guide →Incomplete recovery phrase
Missing words, uncertain order or a damaged written backup may be assessable only when enough reliable information remains.
Partial-seed guide →Seed accepted but balance is missing
Passphrase, derivation path, account index, network and address type can produce a valid but unexpected wallet.
Empty-wallet diagnosis →Old computer or hard drive
Preserve the device before reinstalling, repairing or testing. Locating a wallet and unlocking it are separate problems.
Preservation checklist →Inheritance and authorized estates
Heirs, executors and fiduciaries need both lawful authority and technically useful wallet material.
Inheritance guide →Cases this service does not solve
A public address alone cannot recreate a private key. KeyBack does not recover stolen funds, reverse blockchain transactions, bypass ownership, reset exchange accounts, or promise that an entirely unknown strong password or completely missing seed can be reconstructed.
What to prepare for a non-sensitive assessment
- Wallet software or device name and approximate year.
- Which files, backups or original devices still exist—without uploading them.
- The exact non-secret error message and previous attempts.
- General password characteristics, not the password itself.
- Non-sensitive evidence of ownership or legal authorization.

Not sure whether your wallet fits?
Send a non-sensitive description. KeyBack will assess whether the surviving material suggests a realistic route or whether another specialist is more appropriate.
